Galleri Feldt at Design Miami/Basel June 16th to 21st 2015 – Galleri Feldt

Galleri Feldt at Design Miami/Basel June 16th to 21st 2015

At this year’s Design Miami/Basel Galleri Feldt and Danh Vo present an artist-curated approach to a design showcase featuring important historical pieces of Modern along with contemporary design to draw out the historical and cultural references which inform the works, shifting emphasis away from the “cult of the designer” towards broader questions regarding history, the materials and the idioms the designs employ.

The booth center on two design pieces by Flemming Lassen: ‘The Hussar’ (1935) and ‘The Tired Man’ (1936), placed together with works of design by Finn Juhl and Peder Moos.

Within design history, the works by Lassen can be placed in tension between International modernism and Nordic humanism. The two pieces were designed in consecutive years and bely Lassen’s response to the 1st World War and it’s aftermath, including the desire for reformation and the Danish interpretation of International Modernism.

Leonor Antunes contributes new works in form of tube shaped lamps, which will be used to light the booth and act as a compositional element. The overall mix of works will underscore both the artistic elements of the design pieces as well as the design considerations inherent in Antunes’ works.

The contemporary design, set up as “neighbours” to historical pieces will produce a challenging context for understanding Modern Danish design through a lens and analytical  framework usually reserved for fine art.
